Our American Pledge

While cleaning up trash along the beautiful wetlands of the bay, I stumbled on a piece of cloth stuck between the tides and buried in the marsh breath. Once I pulled it out, I realized it was not just an ordinary cloth but the majestic Stars & Stripes inundated with the elements of wetlands. I was glad to have this tidal souvenir, precious for my mountain spirit, however, over the years this spirit had found a new abode in the wetlands.

Raising awareness for the wetland ecosystem and keeping it pristine so that the abound life can enjoy the liberty of its own abode has been my mission over the years. The Stars & Stripes in its mighty discovery is echoing the wetlands’ call:

You pledge liberty and justice for all, and be an honest son of the land.

As a safety net, my sisters and I looked out from one of our favorite windows—a half-open design with bright wood planks. Taking turns, we peered at the sky with chapped skin, expecting the auspicious flakes to embrace us. The snow settled delicately on cliffs, valleys, and the pathways of our town's tall deodar trees.
